Cake Smash Session in Silver Spring, MD
Every time I get a client who wants a cake smash session in Silver Spring I get excited! I love planning all the little details from the backdrop to the cake and everything in between. I want to make sure that each session is unique and that the client walks away with adorable images that are cute and classy and will withstand the test of time.
When mom first contacted me about the cake smash session in Silver Spring, she told me she loves creepy things and since his birthday was right near Halloween could we do that? Well why not? S I started doing research on creepy cake smash sessions and to to tell you the truth there wasn’t much out there! (I know, hardly a shocker…) Anyhow, I had lot’s of ideas of what to do and then I saw a really cute idea on IG, showed it to mom and that’s what we went with!
I got permission from the other photographer to use a variation of her balloon garland (yes, this is a must if you want to use other people’s ideas!) and then ordered a custom colored balloon garland to match the theme. I had the outfit in my client closet already and as soon as mom saw it she was in love!
Next up was the cake…a whole other story! Always fun to ad drama to a cake smash session in Silver Spring! My usual cake person was unavailable so I had to find an alternative. Last time that happened it was a complete disaster. In the end I was thrilled with the results and I’m sure you will love it too! The colors and the bats were the perfect pairing to go with the balloon garland and really pulled everything together!
Ok, so that was for the cake smash part. But for every Cake smash session in Silver Spring that I do, we also do a regular portrait session at the beginning. Dad was unfortunately not able to make it, so we decided to do epic mommy and me portraits instead!
Mom wanted it to be really dark to go with the creepy theme of Halloween. She picked a black tulle dress from my client closet and we use my black speckled canvas backdrop to bring some dimension. The little man stayed in his green outfit to bring in a little color, but nothing too overwhelming.
Oh my! I’m obsessed with how the mommy and baby portraits turned out!! The ones where mom is looking at her baby…o.m.g. I cannot! All that love is just pouring out and radiating all over the place! (Yes, I truly am obsessed!) Mom looked fabulous in the dress and her makeup was perfection. The pairings of the outfits and the backdrop were incredible!
We also do portraits of just the baby at every cake smash session in Silver Spring. For the classic portraits we used the balloon garland as the backdrop. Little man was being just so adorable and giving me all the delicious faces! (You couldn’t even tell that he had skipped his nap!) We did both sitting and standing photos. The hardest part at this age is getting them to stop running away!
