Trends in newborn photography come and go — some stick around, others fade too fast. As a Silver Spring Photographer, I think it’s worth talking about what is trendy, and what will feel timeless for your photos.
So what is popular right now? Neutrals and monochrome palettes are having a major moment. And it’s easy to see why. These tones are soft, minimal, and help keep the focus exactly where it should be: on your baby. I love this trend, and have had a lot of fun photographing neutrals pieces. But I’m also partial to colors, as you can see here!
But even as styles shift, there’s one thing that never goes out of fashion—timeless imagery. So when talking about trends in newborn photography, it’s important we talk about what is timeless as well!
The newborn phase is so quick, and your photos are more than just a way to document it. They’re heirlooms. They’re the images you’ll frame, share with family, and come back to years down the line when your baby is suddenly taller than you. (It happens sooner than you think! That’s why I always encourage parents to think beyond today’s trends and instead consider what will feel beautiful and meaningful long after the moment has passed.
Timeless doesn’t have to mean traditional or stiff. It simply means thoughtful. A soft palate, natural posing, and minimal distractions allow your baby’s personality to shine through in a way that feels honest and real. Whether you gravitate toward neutral tones or have something more specific in mind, the key is to create images that feel like you—while also still standing the test of time.
There’s nothing wrong with trends in newborn photography, but I want all of my clients to be informed and intentional about the design style of their session. Which is why I help design every element.
When you look back on these photos years from now, I want you to feel everything all over again. The warmth. The wonder. The softness of their skin. That tiny yawn. That’s the kind of magic that lasts, and that’s exactly what I hope to give you.
If you’re dreaming of newborn photos that feel simple, sweet, and beautifully timeless, I’d love to chat with you about planning a session.
