First Birthday Photos | Silver Spring, MD
Mr T’s first birthday photos was a culmination of a year filled with documenting his growth from newborn to one year. We started off by recreating the look we did for family portraits at his newborn session and then did individual portraits and finished off with the cake smash.
I’m so grateful to work in an industry where people go out of there way to help you out. When mom and I were first planning out the first birthday photos, we knew it had to follow the dinosaur theme that we started at his newborn session. After looking around on Pinterest and google I found a fabulous setup by a photographer in the UK. I reached out and asked if I could use her idea and she was more than happy to share. Not only did she allow me to use her backdrop idea, she actually created the cutouts for me and shipped them out! How incredible is that?!?!?
The family portraits went amazingly and we got great full family images plus portraits with both mom and dad. I always make sure that first birthday photos are about the whole family and not just about baby. That way mom and dad walk out with an updated family portrait as well as updated baby portraits.
Then came the cake smash…I don’t want to spoil the surprise or anything, but if you scroll down you’ll see that this didn’t go so well! I always warn parents that first birthday photos can either go amazingly and the baby has a blast or just fails spectacularly. This was definitely the later. It’s all good though, mom loves a good crying photo and we definitely got those!
