Safety for Newborn Photo Shoots | Silver Spring Family Photographer

Have you ever thought about safety for newborn photo shoots? Believe me, as a Silver Spring family photographer – it’s something that is always at the top of my mind. When babies are super fresh, they are really delicate, and it’s very important to support their bodies. When we do wrapped, posed photography, we have to be mindful of this.

This is an important thing to ask any photographer you are considering for newborn photos. What are their protocols? How do they manage keeping baby supported throughout all wraps and poses.

When I first started doing Fine Art photography, I put an emphasis on safety for newborn photo shoots.

After all, we have your most precious baby in our studio! You’re going to feel safe and cared for while you’re here. I’m very careful and cautious when posing a newborn, and I will take as long as I need to slowly set up a shot so that it’s perfectly comfortable for your baby. Moving their little hands and feet. Making sure their neck is supported and they can comfortably sustain the position.

But I also make sure to prep you, as a parent. You sit right with me, spotting your baby and being an extra level of protection by keeping watchful eyes. I know all my poses are secure for your little one, but I want your watchful eye with me. These gorgeous baby photos are so timeless and wonderful, and l want you to have a relaxed process getting them. Which means prioritizing baby’s safety, of course!

While I am a newborn photographer, I am a mom first. I have little ones of my own, and I will always remember how small they are in those first few weeks. How carefully you move them, and hold them, and support them. When you lift them from the bassinet to how you support their necks during feeding.

I promise you that your little one will have the same level of care in our studio here at Yaffa Koff Photography. Safety for newborn sessions is more important to me than anything else. And that’s because I’m a mom first, photographer second.

Honestly, the process is so seamless and natural that you won’t even notice. But the protocols to keep your babe safe have been carefully and intentionally designed as part of the photographic experience for you.

Whether we are doing elaborate wraps or themes, or simple naked baby on a backdrop – I am always considering that first. And then I look at lighting, and poses, and color schemes. But baby being safe…. that’s top priority!

So when you start looking around for a newborn photographer, I highly recommend asking how your photographer handles safety in the studio. Through all the poses, props, wraps and backgrounds.
