As a Silver Spring newborn photographer, it’s very important to me to bring a high quality experience to my families. And that starts with my favorite gear & vendors. So I wanted to peel back the curtain and let you see behind the scenes on how I set up for your heirloom session.
One thing I have learned in my years as a photographer: it’s not about having the fanciest gear on the market — it’s about knowing how to use what you have well and creating a signature style that feels true to you. You also have to fundamentally understand how light work, and how it interacts with cameras. I have spent countless hours studying and practicing this.
Yes, I shoot with a Canon R6 Mark II and use an Einstein flash with an umbrella setup. And I absolutely love them. But that’s not what makes my images timeless, cozy, and full of heart. It’s the way I style each session, the softness of the light, the colors I choose, and the intentionality behind every detail.
Especially as a newborn photographer, paying attention to every detail is what makes the images come to life. Not just my favorite gear & vendors.
If you want to create newborn imagery that withstands trends and still feels beautiful years from now, it’s not about your camera model—it’s about your vision. It’s about creating a cohesive setup that’s gentle, elegant, and thoughtfully styled.
A huge part of that? The right props and outfits.
I’ve spent years curating pieces that bring consistency and classic beauty to my work. Here are a few of my absolute favorite vendors:
-
The Original Photoblocks Props – They offer beautiful backdrops, baskets, beds, and more. I use their pieces in almost every session. They’re versatile, well-made, and perfectly neutral.
-
Threads and Evergreen – The most precious handmade outfits and bonnets. Their sizing is spot-on, and their textures are lovely in-camera.
-
Ivy & Twine – Headbands that feel soft and delicate, not overdone. They’re subtle enough to enhance the image without overwhelming it.
-
Freebird Firsts Prop Shoppe – I use their backdrops often to give my sessions that seamless, cozy finish.
-
Hello Little Props – Another amazing source for props and backdrops that blend beautifully with a timeless style.
At the end of the day, the camera is just a tool. What matters more is your eye, your heart, and the care you put into every detail. That’s what your clients will remember. That’s what makes the difference between a cute photo—and a keepsake.
So what do you think of my favorite gear & vendors feature? Does it help peel back the curtain in all that goes into newborn photography?
